CO-CREATION : HAROLD HENNING  |  VIRGINIE YASSEF |  HANS VAN DEN BROECK

A visual and performative research into the boundaries of standup comedy, an introspection on the disintegration of a mind, excavating the idiosyncrasies of our being, denouncing the joke and the laughter.  In this physical exploration life is not only assigned to us, beings, but to the material world & objects that surround us. They are elongations of our mind and soul. We lay down and let our spirit seep back in.

HELLO
GOOD EVENING
IT’S ON
AM I LOUD ENOUGH?
ENOUGH
PITCHLINES PREPARED – THOUGHTS ARRANGED AND STACKED – AN ITINERARY OUTLINED – EVERYONE TO BE GUIDED – BUT WILL THEY FOLLOW?
THE WEIGHT OF SUSPENSE – PEARLS OF SWEAT SEEP THROUGH – APPEAR AS PERCEPTIBLE FEAR – CAREFULLY POSING AND THROWING WORDS IN THE ROOM –
A GAP TO JUMP – A VOID TO AVOID – THE STALE AIR OFF YESTERDAY
WAITING FOR A RIPPLE IN THE CROWD – THEY LET GO AND LAUGH – IN A WAVE – THE RIGHT ONE – RETREAT BEFORE IT HITS YOU
COLLECTIVE SHORT-LIVED GLEE
THE LISTENING GETS SILENT – NOTHING TO BE HEARD
APPETITE FOR APPROVAL, HUNGER FOR RECOGNITION – DON’T GIVE IN
THRILL , JOY THEN CONFUSION, WHERE DOES THIS ALL GO
WHY AM I HERE – WHY ARE THEY THERE

THE SPEAKER IS PREPARED, THINKS HE/SHE IS PREPARED – WAS PREPARED – BUT THE MIND HAS IT’S OWN WILL – NOT TO BE STEERED

THREADS OF THINKING, FADED COLOUR PICTURES THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN EXACTLY THAT WAY – SATURATED – FILTERS ADDED – DREAMS, MEMORIES, STORED ON AN EXTERNAL DEVICE – HARD-DRIVE SPINNING – SPINNING – SPINNING
SHARPENEND, CATEGORISED, RE-ORDERED, EDITED, REMOVED, ERASED
THEY NIGHT GOES ON AND CONCENTRATION ONLY LASTS THAT LONG
TIME PULVERISES – NOW IS LONG
A WHISKEY OR A COFFEE – PIMP UP A MIND – CLEAR A VISION
IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE ? STILL
THE AUDIENCE IS SOON A BLUR, ABSENCE OF SUN AND DAY
EVERY NOW AND THEN A SPARKLE – A GLINT – REFLECTION OF A SPOTLIGHT IN AN EYE
APPEARS TO WARP INTO AN EVIL EYE OR
A REMINDER SOMEONE IS STILL OUT THERE
CAN YOU HEAR ME?

THEN SUCCOMB AND SURRENDER TO EQUIPMENT
WITHDRAW – REGRESS INTO THE SELF
OR WHAT IS LEFT OF THE SELF
RESTART, REBOOTH
DATA WIPED, SPREAD OUT, THOUSANDS NANO-PIECES OF A PAST
CAN GROW AGAIN
LIKE SEEDS THROWN IN A FERTILE SOIL
WHO CAN SCRAPE IT UP
HEAR THE ECHO ECHO ECHO
HELLO
GOOD EVENING
IT’S ON
AM I LOUD ENOUGH?
ENOUGH

IS IT LAUGHTER THAT WILL GLUE THE SHARDS AND SPLINTERS IN ONE PIECE?
IS IT A LISTENING EAR, AN ATTENTIVE GAZE THAT REASSURE US
WE ARE REAL?
